Part of being thrifty is finding ways to let worn out items live on. If you are crafty, then there are tons of websites out there that will tell you how to transform you items into something new. I’m not terribly crafty, and I really don’t have the time, so I often look for places that will turn my old items into something else. So, here are a few good sites, and if you have others, please feel free to leave them in the comments!
Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe program turns old athletic shoes into material for athletic surfaces, such as basketball courts.
If you wear the much loved/loathed Crocs, you can recycle them when it is time for a new pair. SolesUnited will take your old Crocs and turn them into new shoes which will be distributed to people in need around the world.
If you have a wedding dress, mother-of-the bride, or bridesmaids dresses dating from 2000 and on you can donate them to Brides Against Breast Cancer to help support breast cancer research.
