Legitimate Work From Home Jobs

by Emmy on February 28, 2009

Since I know I’m not the only person out there looking for a job, I thought now was a perfect time for this kind of post. I’m going to leave it stuck to the top of the blog for a while so that it is easy to access. The most important thing to remember when looking for a job that you can do at home, is that there should NEVER be a fee for the job. There are a few exceptions to this rule, but for the most part if they ask you to pay for it it isn’t legitimate. The exceptions to this rule are home party type businesses. Most of them do require an upfront cost. A few of the places listed below may charge you for the background check, but they are proven to be legitimate companies. Just remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Many of the following companies are call center positions. You take calls from home shopping customers, people making reservations, etc.

Alpine Access – This one charges the largest fee, but from what I hear has the best opportunities.

Convergys - I don’t think they are currently hiring in Virginia, but if you know someone in their area pass it along!

SpeakWrite – They are not currently hiring but you can have them e-mail you when they are.

LiveOps – This one also charges a fee for the background check, but I have heard a lot of good things about them.

Working Solutions

1800Flowers - They are not currently hiring, but the site says they may open it back up in April. I have heard rumors that the work will be full time. Leave your contact information to be notified.

Cloud 10 – I’m not sure if they are hiring right now, but my friends husband works for them and really enjoys it.

Google Ads Quality Rater – This position is temporary and isn’t always available. I know someone who did this job for a while. She said it was kind of boring, but paid very well.

These sites pay you for writing articles on topics that interest you, or how-to type articles. They wouldn’t be a job necessarily, but a good source of extra income if you have the time to put into them. Some of them pay you more based on the number of times your article is read.

About.com – This site has you become a guide for different topics. You need to be an expert on the topic you apply for, but they pay pretty well if you get on with them.

The following two sites are sites where customers send in questions via text message. Your job is to help them find the answers to their questions. I am en Expediter on ChaCha which doesn’t pay as much as a guide, but is a bit easier. I’ve passed the test to be a guide and have done it in the past, but I’m not currently a guide. I have taken the test for KGB but didn’t pass the first time. These sites don’t pay a whole lot, but I know people making several hundred dollars doing this. The more time you can put into it the more you’ll make.

ChaCha – If you want to put in a referral e-mail you can use mine it is imaybecheapblog @ gmail.com (remove the spaces).

I did Cha Cha for a while – it’s definitely fun & interesting, it would take a LOT of work to make any substantial money off of it.
